We Apologise For The Disruption To Our Services

The Lad is back. He had been skiing in France and got stuck for a time when the ports of Calais and Dover were closed by the snow and cold. We eventually collected him from Sheffield on Sunday morning and just made it back home before the really heavy snow set in. The Lad brought a case of beer back with him and decided to leave it out in the garden last night so the snow could act as a natural cooler. This morning there were a suspicious set of paw prints converging on the beer stash, all I can assume is that Amy must have had some of her friends around for a little party.

With the Lad home, the Christmas tree still to put up, presents to wrap, and parties to attend I am unlikely to be able to post to the blog too often over the next week or ten days. Equally visits to my favourite blogs will be less frequent than normal. As hundreds of announcers are saying over loudspeakers at railways stations, bus stations and airports throughout Europe at the moment, "we apologise for the disruption to our services". Just in case I don't get chance to say this before Christmas, I would like to wish all my friends the very warmest seasonal greetings.

  1. I'm assuming that the owners of the paws didn't actually managed to drink the beer?!

  18. I'm willing to bet that by the time of this comment, the beer in question has since been recycled back into the water supply.

  19. Happy Christmas Alan & Family

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
    Let your heart be light
    From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
    Make the Yule-tide gay,
    From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
    Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

    Through the years
    We all will be together,
    If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.

  20. Perfect title, Alan! (Wish I'd thought of it first.)

I know that Calais to Dover run and even in the summer it's a challenge with traffic (and I'm talking 1977!) so I'm glad to hear he made it safe and sound with the provisions.

My best wishes to you and your family for a very Happy and Blessed Christmas!

    Kat

  24. happy christmas alan, mrs alan and lad!

we also use winter as a natural refrigeration unit for our beer -I will have to keep a closer eye on things, I never considered that the critters might be absconding with some of the stash- we usually keep the bottles on an open, yet covered back porch so even if there is snow there would be no tracks to alert us of potential theft!

  25. It’s that time of year again! I’m doing the rounds and apologising for my complete failure to more regularly offer comment on everybody’s incredible efforts for the year. I know how hard it can be to keep up with the daily grind of everyday posting, and want to thank you for your efforts.

I especially want to wish festive greetings for all from down here at [nearly] the end of the world, the bottom of Tasmania.

So, if you could delete whatever is not applicable, I’d like to wish you a very pleasant/merry/happy/wonderful/safe Amaterasu; Ashurall; Beiwe; Choimus; Christmas; Dazh Boh; Dongzhi; Goru; Hanukkah; Hogmanay; Junkanoo; Karachun; Koleda; Lenæa; Meán Geimhridh; Modranicht; New Years; Ras as-Sana; Rozhanitsa Feast; Şeva Zistanê; shōgatsu; Summer Solstice [if you're in the Southern Hemisphere]; Sviatki; Vánoce; Winter solstice [if you're in the Northern Hemisphere]; Yalda; Yule-tide; Ziemassvētki; and Коляда!

With a hearty three cheers from Kris, Jen, Henry and Ezra!

  27. Beer? Beer? Did somebody say beer?

    Oh, sorry. Where was I?

Hope all goes well while you're MIA, or at least, not around as much. I know how that goes! Stay safe; I've been reading how badly your neck of the woods has been hit by the weather.

  28. He he, we've often used the "outdoor fridge" in Sweden when the snow dragged the power lines down. It works well, but only if the beer is still there then next day. Hope you had a great Christmas!

  29. I, The lad, can assure all of you that the beer has been happily drunk.
    Merry Christmas all

  32. I apologize that I didn't even make it to your last post before the holiday. It was good that the lad was home and family was up to the traditional activity. I am commenting on New Years eve as I just reconnected to you blog. It is good to have you back. Your weather and our weather appears to be the same, except we keep besting everyone with our arctic cold.
