Spholi Tears

I was making a comment on someone's blog earlier today, complementing them on their poetry and saying that I always wanted to be a creative type of chap but never quite managed it. I am the kind of person, I wrote, who would probably pen a passable poem - if only he could find the words.  I then filled in the word verification and pressed "Post Comment". And then it hit me, like a thunderbolt coming out of a grandmothers' sewing box. What I had been searching for was right in front of me.

Today, therefore, sees the launch of my new persona. The artistic me, the creative me, the musing me. My first offering is a short poem entitled "Spholi Tears" which is built upon the various blogger verification words I encountered during my blog trawl this morning. In case you are unable to disentangle the verification words from my normal rambling style, I have highlighted them in each line.

Spholi Tears

Stepping up to the vingic fire,
Fear owses against a darkened sky.
Istic voices smooth the wire,
And spholi tears repeat the lie.
Together we seek mumine mystification,
Whilst typing "sovesshl" into the word verification.

I am not sure whether Blogger has a Poet in Residence, but if they have I might just apply for the job.

  1. You won't believe it, Alan, but I have been meaning to write a word verification ode for some time.
Congratulations, Sir! You have indeed created something of pith with wonderful imagery and evoking a fascinating atmosphere.

Never mind "Blogger's Poet in Residence" you could be the Poet Laureate of Cyberia if you keep this up.

    I await your next creation!

  3. Heh, heh! We need to start a dictionary, much like Douglas Adams' and John Lloyd's The Meaning of Liff, assigning humorously nonsensical meaning to word verification codes. I actually had a real word - chick - show up on one this morning. The one for this one is "logsoc".

You definitely get the Blogger Word Verification Poet Laureate spot! Very Poe-esque, with a bit of William Morris atmosphere to it. Well done!

  8. And with this offering, the job is rightly yours!

Whatever you do, don't change your style. For heaven's sake don't do what this WV advises, and 'phalize' it!

  9. Poetikat / Mouse : Cyberia - I like it.
Roy : I did come up with a theory some time ago that Blogger is nothing more than a new word factory and our outpourings are just a side-line. The main function of Blogger is to invent new words.
Tony : Worroan to you too.

  10. So these new poems are called detisms - is that it? I love the idea and I love your poem, a minor masterpiece. Only trouble is, I think WV might be moving on to real words - I had one too the other day - can't remember it now though.

exterolo - my last chocolate, that I gave to you

  14. I love it!

I'm actually surprised you didn't try this earlier, since it was by your suggestion that I started to attribute definitions to the word verifications.

    Speaking of...

lendicep - adjective - the characteristic of continuing to loan tools freely to neighbors who rarely return them

  20. I already left a comment, but I thought I'd come back and see what word I might get from word verification. Sometimes they're not very nice. This one was 'hater." :(

  21. Christine : Yes that one is particularly inappropriate as I am a great lover of your blog which I regard as the greatest of all the postcard blogs.

  24. Outstanding in the filde. I think you have something here. I have always been thinking that I would write to verification word so I could share what I had to not spell to post. For example your's today is "pized" and I am sure it was supposed to be prized blogger like you, right?
