Youth's Not Over : In Oxford

The promised recreation of the 1971 photograph didn't take place against the backdrop of Halifax. Nor could I find a convenient stone wall. But use your imagination : convert a garden tool-shed into a wall, where you see fences and shrubs think of mill chimneys and cooling towers. The two girls are the same. And I for one would say : youth's not over.

And following the suggestion of the Silver Fox - a fine fellow I would happily follow most places - here is the original for comparison.

  1. I loved comparing that to the original! At the risk of sounding intrusive, I do have a suggestion, and that would be to include the older photo in this post for easier comparison? In hopes that I'm not crossing any lines here, I remain your humble servant!

  3. So, if I were to ask for, say, 5,000 U.S. dollars...?

  4. Now read the phrase again Foxter - "a fine fellow I would happily follow MOST places"

  5. @ Silver Fox - From a Yorkshireman..?!!!

The backdrop may not be so stunning, but the people have an aura of Spring!

  6. Drat! I was relying upon the brevity of "You ask and it shall be done."

    Oh, well, nice post anyway...!!!

  7. Smashing photographs, Alan. Is it still possible to get a shot from the original setting? I imagine there's been some development since the original photograph was taken.

  12. Enjoyed this comparison, Alan. How nice of your subject to cooperate too and the after and before were good to include thanks to Silver Fox's suggestion. I am rather new to checking out the Sepia Saturday blog, but hopefully will be posting to it in the future.

  16. Hooray for friendships that last and hooray for the way these beautiful ladies look even better 'now' than 'then' - their youthful essence still recognisable but softened, like wood or stone that has been polished by time.

  22. What a brilliant idea! I know it's not as long but I have one of my daughter and her friend, both aged 6 sitting together on a large stone in the wilds of Cornwall. I have another of them (quite by coincidence) sitting in the same position on a garden bench in Hereford, 18 years later! They hadn't seen each other for 12 years when the second one was taken!

Nice photo - oh how the backdrop of Halifax will have changed!
