Mam On Shipley Glen

Today would have been the 100th birthday of my mother, Gladys. To mark the occasion here is a photograph of her taken, I would imagine, some 75 years ago. Penciled on the reverse in what looks like my childhood hand is the phrase "Mam on Shipley Glen". Happy birthday Mam.

  1. One thing hasn't changed; I see the shoes were chosen with fashion in mind, rather than terrain.

A photo that speaks of the times.

  2. What a great looking lady, her fashion sense and wavy hair, done with those special metal clasps no doubt. She has a bit of Rene Zellweger about her look, with out the pout. It's fun to see the people our parents were before we came along.

  3. A Very Beautiful Girl. Not sure about the background though. I think she should be moved to a proper glen with trees and rippling brook in the scene somewhere.

  7. I love the ambiguous expression on her face. Lovely woman. Nice to celebrate her birth, and the memory of her, as well.

  14. That brings back hazy memories for me too.
I'm sure I used to rock climb at Shipley Glen - gritstone, I reacall; short and steep, almost like boulders but arranged as an edge. Near Bradford I think... it was a long time ago.
