Sepia Saturday 107 : Who Framed Roger And His Rabbit?

That bizarre man who chooses the Sepia Saturday theme pictures has this week come up with a picture of a small child with a rabbit. He might think he can beat me into submission, but not a chance : where he goes with child and rabbit I follow. In my case the child is little more than a babe in arms and the rabbit seems to have had some of the stuffing knocked out of it, but it is not a bad effort. The baby, the penciled annotation on the reverse of the small snap tells me, is my brother Roger. I have a feeling that the black-skirted legs you can just make out in the background are those of my grandmother, Kate Beanland. But who took the photograph, who composed the delightful shot? Yes, you know where I am going with this, who framed Roger and his Rabbit?

Hop on over to the Sepia Saturday Blog to see other people rabbiting on about old photographs.

  1. Rabbit? Are you sure? Looks more like Eeyore to me

  2. Did you have a pooh? Or is that too personal a question at this time of day?

I never had a doll baby not even a rabbit-one. You were so lucky.

  6. Who framed Roger Rabbit? Now why didn't I think of that?
I'm now off to check out the cuddly toys at the back of our 'spare' wardrobe.
    Fine photo, Alan.

  7. Aw what a cute photo of Roger. And that rabbit is just adorable! Not too worse for wear...it's ears are still attached! ha.

  8. Oh so silly, and it's a good thing she did! What a cute, most darling photo, of Roger and rabbit, and your play with words on that really funny movie....just makes my day!

  9. How funny; I just mentioned Roger Rabbit in my comment on Bob’s post before I read yours. It’s a gorgeous picure and I can confirm that it is indeed a rabbit. I even know which pattern book it came from because it was still being issued in the sixties and I made several of those very bunnies. There’s one on Amazon.UK at the moment. Check it here. In fact, you’ve given me an idea..............

  11. Pity the link on my comment doesn’t work. However,if folk are curious to see the book I put a picture of it on my own Sepia Saturday post, where I’ve also linked back to this one. You’ve set me off Alan, and I’m half-tempted to get that book again. As Eric Morecambe used to say; “I have a long felt want."

  12. Wonderful photo - including the Nora Batty legs in the background. My daughter had an Eeyore - it did look a bit like that rabbit. It went everywhere with us when she was young; nearly got left on a plane and had to be rescued!

  16. Such a sweet little boy :p

That rabbit's ears look as though they have been streeeeeeeeeetched. Did Roger, by any chance, drag the poor thing around by them?

  19. What a charming photo! Roger is absolutely beatific—or is it besotted? Rabbit looks a little the worse-for-wear, but he can take it!
Hmm. Who DID frame Roger and his Rabbit? Grandpa?

  23. The rabbit looks like he fell over after giving Roger a hug.

  24. Well, the consensus seems to be that it's a rabbit. In that case I shan't argue but its a very odd looking rabbit.

Roger looks absolutely delighted to be out in the garden with his rabbit. It's just a little mis-shapen due to being over-loved and over-hugged. A bit like the rest of us :-) Jo

  29. Oh such a charmingly happy photo!

I have a bunny that is called Rudi Rabbit that is filled with who knows what, but once smelled of lavender. He is specifically to be used to cover your eyes to block out all light instead of a mask. I have no idea how stupid I must look with this little rabbit on my face, but he's near my nightstand at all times in case any light should awaken me. I fear he's coming near the end of his life and I will have to go in search of another.

  32. What a shot. Roger is looking pretty pleased at being captured on film. It is a fun photo to see.

  33. I looked at the framing of the photo because you mentioned "frame." It almost seems that the photographer purposefully and carefully framed the photo to include grandmother's legs and feet, with Roger to the left and legs/feet to the right. If that was the photographer's purpose --perfect!

Roger looks delightfully happy - and huggable, too.

It's uncanny how that guy who chooses the Sepia Saturday photos chooses ones that align with your collection, Alan. Hmmmmm. However he chooses them, he finds good ones.
