Just Like You, My Truffle

I have a box full of cameras of all shapes and sizes (note to my wife - I haven't really dear, I am just using this phrase for literary embellishment), but so often I finish up taking photographs with my mobile phone. My mobile is always with me, always reliable, and always ready for whatever life may throw at it (note to wife - just like you my dear). So this is the first of a short weekly series of pictures taken on my iPhone.

This was taken last Monday tea-time in Church Lane, Brighouse. The road is still laid with stone cobbles; a remarkably effective road surface in terms of durability. The pavement is covered with the detritus of Autumn and once you add the street lights you are left with a soothing golden glow. It is enough to warm your heart on these cold November evenings (note to wife - just like you my truffle).

  1. Great photo Alan. I'm looking forward to upgrading my iphone and exploring its potential. I was at an exhibition in Wirksworth i September where the photographer had given up his camera and only worked now with ipad and iphone!

    1. I am not sure that I could give up with normal cameras, but it certainly is able to replace the small, carry-it-all-the-time camera.

    2. Have you tried the Snapseed app? It is quite good. I'm always explaining that embellishment thing to my mom whenever she reads a) my poetry, and b) my SS posts.

I like Instagram for my food shots; I'd rather drop my iPod in the soup pot than my good camera!

  2. Sure is a beautiful photo. they are very handy gadgets. Are the resolutions high enough for good prints?

    1. Even when cropped the image was 2000 x 2500 pixels which could easily be blown up to A4 size without too many problems.

  3. Charming photograph, from a proper charmer.

  4. When the white eagle of the North is flying overhead
The browns, reds and golds of autumn lie in the gutter, dead.
Remember then, that summer birds with wings of fire flaying
Came to witness springs new hope, born of leaves decaying.
Just as new life will come from death, love will come at leisure.
Love of love, love of life and giving without measure
Gives in return a wonderous yearn of a promise almost seen.
Live hand-in-hand and together we'll stand on the threshold of a dream.

Ah - your post reminded me of the good old Moody Blues.

  5. Stunning photos. But you do raise a good question. Just what does one do with all those old cameras? They're much too dear for the trash, and there are way too many for museums.

    1. I am not even sure if you can get film for some of them any more. They are nice objects but the process was so long and involved.

  6. You must be in some sort of trouble to be laying it on so thick.
Did ya buy something you haven't told the wife about yet?

  7. Not only are you a wonderful photographer- even by mobile! But you certainly can craft the most lovely of words to your sweetheart- that no matter what you may do or say- she'll love you forever!

  8. Love the photo, the light is especially wonderful, but you must be in the doghouse to be using so many parenthetical phrases (not that there's anything wrong with them). It seems to connote the use of the aphorism, "Better to beg forgiveness than ask permission." :)

  10. Absolutely stunning. Would make a good pair with the other picture you took while on holidays I believe it was in Spain, that had golden hues to it too!!

  11. Nice shot . It also looks like it has been raining as the cobble stones are wet.
