Nutmeg In A Dark Room

I had a little nut tree,
Nothing would it bear
But a silver nutmeg,
And a golden pear;

One of the reasons for the new computer was the need for a machine with enough power to run Adobe Lightroom. Over the years I have accumulated thousands of photographs (negatives and digital) and I dream of being able to catalogue the resource. Lightroom promises the digital equivalent of the old photographers' darkroom, and considering that some of my happiest times have been spent in a dark room with acid fixer eating away at my fingertips, as soon as the new computer arrived a copy of Lightroom wasn't far behind. Cataloguing all those images is going to be a major task and I am working backwards, starting with my most recent photographs first.

This photograph of a nutmeg warehouse and processing factory on the island of Grenada was taken less that a month ago. Already the memory of the trip is beginning to fade, and therefore the catalogue information I am currently adding will prove useful in time.

  5. You'll have to keep us up to date on how it works for you! This is a most stunning image! You are so right about keeping those memories in place. My daughter and one of my best friends took the train to Chicago and spent three marvelous days touring and sightseeing and as soon as we got home I put all our pictures and little stories, postcards, and special photos (taken from the highest building and such) into a large album. Now when I go through it brings me right back to the moments, even more than my fading memories of it! Hooray for cameras and trips right!

  9. So happy to hear that your upgrade will accommodate the use of LR. It is a fabulous program and you may find that all that cataloging goes faster than your expect.

  10. Yes, one must do the organizing of photos right away or we forget the details. Good luck with your project.

  11. That little poem....it was in a book of mine as a child and I haven't seen it or heard it since...probably 40 years! Thanks for the memory. :)

  12. You are good cataloguing. I have Aperture for Apple but I'm lazy with the organisation section. Love the nutmeg store. I was given a free version of Lightroom and HDR Efex. I don't use Lightroom but I can use HDR Efex with Aperture. Good luck you will spend hours playing with it.

  15. Yes, a major task cataloging photos. Also lots of memories and fun, I am sure you will put the odd one aside for special! Interesting picture this nutmeg warehouse. Nutmeg a fine spice when used sparingly, did you know that it is also very poisonous. I guess one would have to eat a whole one!
    Nutmeg contains myristicin, a natural compound that has mind-altering effects if ingested in large doses. The buzz can last one to two days and can be hallucinogenic, much like LSD.

  16. Nutmeg - my gran had a lovely little silver nutmeg grater. I wonder whatever happened to it? And yes, I got Lightroom with the same desire....it so far has not happened!
