Another Try For Cultural Posterity

Last Sunday I attempted to add to the general happiness of mankind and the cultural richness of society by scanning and making available, free of charge and with no copyright restrictions, the image from one of my old vintage postcards. Alas, all to soon, it was pointed out by the encyclopedic Brett Payne, that my image of "Minding Baby" had already been published on the website of the Irish Wolfhound Club of Switzerland. There is nothing I like more than a challenge, so I will continue featuring scans from my old postcards until I can come up with a genuine "First on the Net". This week I am abandoning cute animals for a picture of one of the great architectural wonders of the world -the footbridge in Rochdale Park in Lancashire. I have had a quick Google search and I can't find any other mention of this image, so, until someone tells me to the contrary, here is my contribution to the cultural heritage of the world - a park bridge in Rochdale.

  8. Good try Alan. I'll just say that's it is indeed a fine image and leave it at that, shall I? On second thoughts, I must add that yours is a much nicer scan than that "other one." ;-)

I'd also like to say that it reminds me of another postcard of an iron bridge, this one for rail. It is the Great Northern Railway Bridge over Friargate, Derby, constructed by the firm of Andrew Handyside (also of Derby). I can't locate an image of the particular postcard that I'm thinking of at the moment, sadly, but here is one that will do for the moment.

Searching for images is often as easy as dragging and dropping the image file into the search box of the Google Images search page. You can also copy/paste a URL or upload an image from your computer into the search box at TinEye. I can't take much of the encycopledic credit, I must confess, but I will have to take the blame for ruining your attempt at the enhancement of mankind's happiness and society's cultural dicersity.
