Sepia Saturday 191 : Defaulting To The Uncomplicated

Things are a bit hectic this weekend as we are celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary. So this will be a short Sepia Saturday post. Marilyn was looking after the prompt for Sepia Saturday 191 and her first suggested match for the theme photograph was "man with two wives".  On such a weekend as this I would never dare to go with such a theme and therefore I have defaulted to an uncomplicated "group of three". But looking again at that photograph - which features the celebrated Auntie Miriam and was taken in St Annes in 1941 - it certainly features a penetrating gaze. And who is the other woman? Could Uncle Frank have had two wives? All I can say, after forty years of marriage, is ... silly man.

Please call in at the Sepia Saturday Blog to view the other interpretations of the photographic prompt for Sepia Saturday 191.

  1. Fun to speculate, but I think not! We are both taking the easy route this week.

    1. I wished you "Happy Anniversary" on Facebook (the new car shot), but in case you missed it, congratulations once more!

  2. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary
The picture reminded me of Skegness Pier when it was still standing and the little seating areas that looked like the one in your photo

  8. If that is Uncle Frank, it looks like he is able to relax and read the paper while his two wives entertain each other. Of course your Auntie Miriam would never allow such a situation!

  12. 1973 was a good year for weddings - you're the third Ruby couple I know. It would have been mine too but it didn't last any longer than "Flowers"!

  13. Happy Anniversary to you and yours! If Uncle Frank had two women, he is making sure he doesn't favor one over the other one...LOL

  14. Intriguing photograph - are the two people who are engrossed in reading really connected to Miriam at all, or are they just 'part of the scenery'? Or did the photographer make up the foursome?
Congratulations on your 40th anniversary and I hope the celebrations are memorable. All being well, we will reach the same milestone in January next year. From being married at 21, I feel it's a pretty good effort :-)

  23. As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
    Each wife had seven sacks,
    Each sack had seven cats,
    Each cat had seven kits:
    Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
    How many anniversaries is that?

My best wishes to you and your one wife, Alan.

I think Jo has got it right. There is a fourth person, the one taking the photograph. Two couples ! QED. Congrats on the 40th. Well done !

  29. Happy Anniversary. We celebrated our 40th on Aug 18. With a wife and 2 daughters, my husband wouldn't want another wife around. He always tells people the only male companionship he had was the hamster that lived a little over a year.

  30. Happy Anniversary! I watch the Sister Wives show in t.v. about plural marriage, but I could never live that livestyle.

There is a lot going on in that picture, and Aunt Miriam looks very happy. Great shot.

  32. Were the gentleman and the lady both looking at maps? That might explain the smile on your Auntie who didn't need a map. She knew where she was going.

    Congrats on your anniversary!

  33. Uncle Frank doesn't look interested in either of them. Congratulations on your 40th anniversary.

  34. Happy 40th!!
It would have been bad timing to broach the subject of...
a second wife tucked away somewhere.
    :D~
