A Pub A Day Calendar : George III, Queensbury

My Pub-A-Day Calendar extract for this week features the George III pub in Queensbury. I have never set foot in this pub (yes, there is one pub in Yorkshire I still haven't visited), but it always looks inviting, the very epitome of what a traditional English pub should look like. There is a welcome above the door and an invitation to "watch England here". What better way to spend a day; pint in hand, watching England go by.

  1. George III, eh. Might you not risk madness going in there - or at least an unhealthy interest in matters of a farming nature?

  2. Oops - wrong alias. It gets so confusing as to who I am.

Pubs never caught on over here. At least every town as what is called a "Beer Joint" or a "Bar" but few ordinary citizens attend such places on a regular basis. I don't know why. I like to stop at one such place and eat my lunch. They have excellent pulled pork sandwiches and those are great with draft beer. The VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars -- I am a Life member) has a meals or sandwiches and almost any kind of booze. We like to go there and order shrimp dinners and draft beer.

  4. Don't go in. Allow the illusion to sustain you. Allow the 'I wonder what it would be like inside' in your minds eye to decorate this pub for you. Resist. Don't let the reality spoil it for you.

But if you go in, take some pictures, please.

  5. Always delighted to read one of your posts, (well almost always.) This one looks like a winner, and of course I also encourage your decadence. The more decadent sounding the more I like it!

  6. I welcome another sight filled trip to view England again! Great pub indeed, and you should plan to check it out for real!

  7. Well, it has a sign advertising cask ales. That's good enough for me!

  8. It looks inviting. I guess if there are regulars there you would have to earn your place in the space.

  9. Well, you're going to have to break down and visit this pub!

  10. As England rarely get past the Quarter- finals in major football competitions, they must close a lot. Never mind, 6 nations rugby starts soon.
