My gran lived in a village in Shillington in Herts, only about 1000 people at a push and at least 15 pubs!Bainohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14156193098088048637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37291817.post-5193822534333451172010-02-16T03:36:11.553+00:002010-02-16T03:36:11.553+00:00How sad...Good luck in your mission and I'll v...How sad...Good luck in your mission and I'll visit the other blog...ehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11376645220662546020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37291817.post-71263650224645197422010-02-16T01:01:22.778+00:002010-02-16T01:01:22.778+00:00Pubology....now that word is just fun to say! We stopped at a pub for dinner. I thought I was transported back in time to about the 1950s in the movie "Remains of the Day" starring Anthony Hopkins. It truly was a wonderful experience where WT and I had shepard's pie and ale.
I hate to hear of the numerous closings. :( The BachAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37291817.post-19911483392103131562010-02-15T21:34:01.209+00:002010-02-15T21:34:01.209+00:00sad. i love a good pub...the food is amazing...and...sad. i love a good pub...the food is amazing...and the comraderie...sad.Brian Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722940075884718007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37291817.post-47909837054947005202010-02-15T21:00:22.070+00:002010-02-15T21:00:22.070+00:00yes Neutral Social Spaces Are Quite Rare.Pubs have...yes Neutral Social Spaces Are Quite Rare.Pubs have always served an important community role. It's a pity to see the current state of them .50% have closed & the other 50% have Barred Me!!!!tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03746435400444226665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37291817.post-62052082325771224112010-02-15T20:04:53.739+00:002010-02-15T20:04:53.739+00:00I fell in love with English pubs from their charmi...I fell in love with English pubs from their charming depiction in Merchant Ivory films. Going to the pub with fellow students was such an important part of the day. I loved that everyone gathered there. Then there were the pubs by the river with tables outdoors...couples brought there children. My favorite was the The House of Windsor in neighboring Witney where we played the game Aunt Sally in the back garden. This is a really fine post. Loved it. I am off to visit your Yorkshire Pubs as well!FireLighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06807248509319526615noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37291817.post-83649674396322296822010-02-15T17:37:21.332+00:002010-02-15T17:37:21.332+00:00It's a tough job, but someone has to do it Ala...It's a tough job, but someone has to do it Alan.

I worked for an independent brewery in Cornwall for nine years. A former colleague and good friend tells me they are still going strong, even in this current climate. There's no denying the alarming rate of pub closures nationwide, so the Cornwall phenomenon must be the exception to the rule.Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13494219959077922220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37291817.post-21982832175429387212010-02-15T17:30:15.018+00:002010-02-15T17:30:15.018+00:00Best of luck on your missing.
