My love of old photographs has led me to collect thousands of them over the years and share them with fellow enthusiasts throughout the world. One way in which I do this is via a weekly internet meme, Sepia Saturday, which I started way back in 2009. Our theme this week is "Old Photographs As Works Of Art," and my contribution is this wonderful portrait of an unknown man, which I acquired many years ago as part of an eBay purchase.
This is my contribution to Sepia Saturday 807. To see other contributions go to the Sepia Saturday Blog and follow the links.

The gentleman above looks like he should be on someone's wall of ancestors. Good to see you posting on sepia Saturday this beginning of 2026.
ReplyDeleteNew Year's resolution, Kristin
DeleteIntriguing photo, particularly the blocks of light and dark and the dual shadows behind the subject. I can see why you purchased it even without knowing who is depicted.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what he's sitting in front of? He looks like a very important person of some status?
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you posting for SS! This anonymous fellow could be just about one of a million men, all dressed identically, doing who knows what but it's a fair guess it had to do with paper pushing. Or maybe he just delegated such to others. I'm also intrigued by the included but slightly out of focus picture on the wall over his head.
ReplyDeleteIt is a fine portrait improved by his slight head tilt and the two shadows behind him. I can't be certain but the fuzzy picture hanging above him resembles those inspirational paintings of Jesus praying. Perhaps he is a church deacon posing for his official portrait.
