It was the 66th Halifax Agricultural Show on Saturday and we went along to take a look at the animals and the various stalls. So I will share a few of the photographs I took, and keep the words to a minimum.
Bulls in the Parade Ring |
A stunningly beautiful work horse. |
Equally beautiful and he/she knows it. |
Judging in the headless fancy chicken category. |
Is there anything as cute as baby pigs? |
You're lucky you still have one. These shows are falling like ninepins at present.
ReplyDeleteLooks bigger and fancier than anything we have. I'm impressed with the judges and stock handlers wearing white lab coats. Wish I could have been there.
ReplyDelete'All Creatures great and small."
ReplyDeleteThese farm fairs are still big here across the Pond. We just had our local one in July, but I didn't get to go this year because I had to work when it was happening.
ReplyDeleteOh thanks so much for sharing your trip there! This is like going to our Minnesota State Fair.... I must see ALL the animals...! The first photo appears that bull is ready to battle with Mr. White-Coat!...and Mr. White-Coat knows it! His expression is priceless! Excellent capture of beast against man!
ReplyDeleteThe cutest animals! My daughter would love to have a baby pig as a pet, but I told her it will GROW!
ReplyDeleteGood to see that the show continues and hasn't been a victim of the economic crisis or the weather. Wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteI missed it this year Alan but I'm glad we had decent weather for a change (did you also steal away to the Big 6 for a swift pint?)
ReplyDeleteOur county fair was last week so we had the same types of shows. But, you photos are better then any I took and I hate to say it but your livestock is also a lot more interesting to look at.
ReplyDeleteLove everything about these photos. But, that Llama is my favorite. What expression on that face. I believe you have a Diva there.
Super post! Were there any huntsmen in red coats?
ReplyDeleteNicely captured moments, Alan. For one moment there, I misread your caption. I thought it said, Juggling in the headless fancy chicken category. A suggestion for future shows perhaps?
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures. Love that llama.
ReplyDeleteI love agricultural shows. I can see how someone might be tempted to get a pig as a pet when you see them like this.
ReplyDeleteOh, these are splendid! I think the first is my favourite, a real action shot, in that I feel I can really imagine the movement and noise of leading the animal around.
ReplyDeleteAnd the alpaca (or is it a llama) is positively flirtatious! :)
ReplyDeleteBut for the ring in his nose, the bull would probably be off doing his own thing. The horse is magnificent. It's hard to find a small fair like this around here. Wish I'd been there!
ReplyDeleteI would have found this fair interesting. I would be asking you what kind of horse? What kind of pigs? Curious !
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about county fairs is seeing the animals all clean and fluffed.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun..those little pigs must have been born at the fair..and those bulls are so stocky..beautiful creatures all except for the headless chicken:)
ReplyDeleteYes, the photos do speak for themselves, Alan, and very nicely too. I was wondering about the white coats and also a headless chicken? We have been to several county or 4H fairs since moving here to the VA eastern shore which is largely an agricultural area. These fairs are always so interesting.
