Time Travel Around Halifax

Because of the construction work, it is possible to date this photograph reasonably precisely. I must have taken it sometime in 1970 although it has lain dormant in my negative files until I scanned it yesterday. If you know Halifax, you can click on the image to enlarge it and then take a tour around the town of forty years ago. If you don't know Halifax, you can find an account of the construction of the road - known as Burdock Way - on the splendidly nerdish CBRD Website.

  2. Still not the most graceful flyover but it does its job even now. By the way, making you buy a new car is a heavy burden to bear! Hope you make the most of it!

  4. Now I'm guessing that most of these buildings are now gone. The new roads caused everything else to change.

  5. What a great capture! I was lucky to miss all our summer road construction going on everywhere, this weekend by spending it on the water! It seems they have all the main roads and freeways cut down to one lane or closed! Yikes!

  7. A beautiful picture indeed. I am not familiar with Halifax yet. After almost 16 years in this country I will be travelling to Shropshire soon for the first time. Slowly I will come to know most of Great Britain before I kick the bucket, I hope. :-)

    Greetings from London.
