Surreal Sunday 2 : Sluice Gates Of The Mind

In an experiment to determine whether or not surreal art can be produced by someone without any artistic merit or skill, I am currently featuring six works of art. Five of the works featured recently in the British Surrealism in Context Exhibition . The sixth work of art will have been produced by someone without any artistic ability or experience (me) on my kitchen table in less than an hour. Your task is to spot the surreal fraud. You can comment as we progress through the six works or wait until the end to give your verdict.
In this piece the artist goes in search of the unconscious mind and attempts to bring traumatic memories to the surface.

  1. I'll hold off on my guess until the end, but I do like the phrase "sluice gates of the mind."

  2. Whatever it is suppose to mean, I like the colors and it is a pleasing design. Unfortunately, it looks like something I use to grade as an art teacher created by a junior high student. It works as an artwork but not my favorite.

  3. Pregnant woman in a bath, or is it a fried egg with cigarette butts; I think i'll view the posts and leave it at that. I cannot get on with modern art, surreal art etc. Give me an aeroplane anyday.

  6. I like this game... hmmm. It seems like something traumatic happened in the bathtub or the crib. Very interesting painting but too disturbing to want to hang in my living room.

  7. Hmm does look like a muppet in the bathtub eating breakfast! I like surrealism as a genre but I guess I'm more Daliesque in my tastes. Great fun tho!

  9. I think I get this one! It's a butternut squash, with a Christmas ball in its mouth, with its arm around a sliced pear! I'd say this is from the exhibition.

  11. This one has to be from the exhibition. I seriously doubt that Alan is warped enough to have done it. ;)
