Sepia Saturday 63 : Youth Over Halifax

I have a feeling that I might have used this photograph before on one of my Blogs, but I make no apology for using it again. It is one of my very favourite photographs of all time. It shows our friend Janie and the GLW (Issy) against the backdrop of industrial Halifax. It dates back forty years and therefore qualifies as a Sepia Saturday shot, and is particularly appropriate as we will be visiting Janie and her husband Edwin this weekend. I will try and find a stone wall and persuade the girls to adopt a similar pose and see what kind of photograph we can come up with. My weekend away is the reason for this early Sepia Saturday submission, but Sepia Saturday contributions from throughout the world will be appearing on the Sepia Saturday Blog throughout the weekend.

  11. Sure evokes the 70s (60s?)...anyway I love the contrast between the ancient wall and the modern cooling towers! I can imagine you proceeding on an anti-nuke protest march from here..

  12. It looks like a still from one of those gritty 'kitchen-sink' dramas of the 70's! Great stuff!

  15. will await the photo of now compared to then. Itreally portrays an industrial area with the darkness... strange post the one before this about boycotting American women...well to be expected here in blog land..but a strange way to share his opinion, obviously divorced or in process..

  18. A very cool photo indeed and being new to Sepia I've never seen it before and they look very happy to be where they are...I also find one thing interesting as I look over my photos of today, not just with my children but even myself, we ladies tend to have our purses, bags or backpacks in the photo as well...you didn't see that so much back in the day! Thanks for sharing this!

  27. Alan, you are a genius. Not kidding either. Broke my heart with this photo. "Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio?"

  28. Alan, I love 'repeated'pictures and tried to take them several times - does not matter 2, 20 or more years later. Also your picture is 'a portrait of times', isn't it?
