There was a wonderful little Spanish cafe that Jamie and Bev took us to last week (each morning on his way to work, Jamie calls in there for a coffee). There is a window in the main part of the restaurant which allows the donkey that lives in the field at the back to stick his head through and join in with the meal. One suspects that the health and safety people would frown on such practices in this country, which is a shame. The rest of the room is a testament to popular Spanish culture which seemed to work better in monochrome than in vivid colour. You half expect to see Ernest Hemingway sat on a corner table, sharing a conversation with the donkey.

I can see the attraction of this quirky restaurant. For me, the donkey poking his head through the window would be the best part of the visit!
ReplyDeleteThis is great, Alan! I'd eat in that restaurant any day.
ReplyDeleteTHAT's the donkey they used as the model for every "Pin the tail on the Donkey" game in the 60s. I'm sure of it!

Oh my gosh, exactly so. What a cool place. The donkey completes it.
ReplyDeleteHealth and safety ... bah! For me, the donkey would have been the highlight. The room, with it's bits and bobs, calls for close inspection ... by me.
ReplyDeleteThis is so neat! I would love to go there. I like how you developed it into black and white, the picture turned out very nicely.

No that's a well cultured donkey. He's not going to eat in any old barn. He's got a lot of grain in the shopping cart too. I wonder if he makes the rounds of all the restaurants in the area? haha
ReplyDeleteA place that would stay in your memory for sure. I'm not sure if I could cope with the donkey's head through the window! Do they dribble?
ReplyDeleteLovely shot! Its making me hungry.
ReplyDeleteNow there's a restaurant that my friends and I could try out. We have been going to a restaurant/cafe every Saturday morning for breakfast for years now (we go to different ones, sort of sharing the wealth, so to speak). We laugh and talk about the week's events. This would certainly be on our list of restaurants to test out.
ReplyDeleteDo you think Hemingway might be helping the donkey with his latest MS, 'The Old Mule and the Sea' perhaps?
ReplyDeleteLove it! A lovely post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful place to call for coffee! I'd love to be joined by the donkey :) (Of course, he's really searching for his little friend in the corner!)
ReplyDeleteBusy little place isnt it? Like the idea of the donkey popping it's head in.
ReplyDeleteDelightfully atmospheric photos. And the donkey would indeed be a welcome addition to the meal! Errr... as a guest, I mean!
ReplyDeleteindeed, the B&W works its charm!! i don't think it will ever lose its appeal.

It looks like a very interesting place to eat. I like all of it on the walls and it would kill a lot of time viewing it while waiting for the food.
ReplyDeleteIs that a bag of oats for the donkey on the chair?
