Picture Post 1031 : Toasting Bread On The Walls Of Estepona

Alan Burnett's Picture Post 1031 : Estepona, Spain. September 2011
It is a lovely day outside, warm for the time of year. But this warm spell has the feel of a final tour by some ageing rock star : you are drawn to the experience because this might be your final chance before the cultural - or the climatic - winter sets in. When we were in Spain a couple of weeks ago I had the same feeling : a feeling that I should somehow soak up the last of the heat before the cold days and nights set it. Maybe we all have some of the cold-blooded genetic material that our Darwinian ancestors had : maybe that is what drives us to beaches or to hug stone walls heated by the Mediterranean sun. This particular picture, taken one evening as we walked around the small town of Estepona, just radiates heat for me. Perhaps I will print a big version off and toast bread on it over the winter months.

  1. What an absolutely gorgeous photo, it is a mere 2 degrees here and as I gaze upon this picture, I am feeling the warmth. If you don't mind, I may enlarge this one too and find a place on the wall for it...great photo Alan!!

  2. Thank you Rosie - and of course you can enlarge and print the photograph. If it makes it onto your wall you will have the largest collection of my works on display in the New World!

  7. Outstanding photograph. I love its warmth, the different levels of light from the walls, the entrance light on the house at the end of the street and the light overlooking it from the dusky sky. Very nice. A great descriptive paragraph as well.

    Love your response to Rosie.

Yes, Indian Summer here too. Hope it helps me through the forecasted snow!

  9. Lovely mellow tones Alan. No sign of Autumn here in Lanz; mind you I’m coming to UK this weekend, and apparently it’ll feel just as warm.

  14. Some of the darker tones in this photograph remind me of London Pride (the beer, of course).

  16. Talking about heat it was so hot here the other day when I went outside to cut my fingernails the clippings disappeared in a puff of smoke as they hit the pavement. Great Photo Alan!

  17. Oh gosh, it would be so nice to be walking down that little stone path to your own lovely white house at the end of the walk under that beautiful azure sky!

  18. Beautiful, Alan!! Visiting Spain is #22 on my bucket list. You've only whet my appetite all the more. I hope you don't mind, but I "borrowed" the photo for my desktop wallpaper. OF course, by doing so I'll never get any work done because I won't want to open any applications and spoil the view!!
