Paradise

I must have taken this photograph in about 1970. Clearly it is Paradise Street. My first thought was that it was in Elland, but a quick search reveals no such street. But there is a Paradise Street in Halifax, now completely cleared of all its houses. So, now we know the location of paradise.

  1. Excellent shot, Alan. I love the chimneys. As for the location of Paradise, John Prine had something to say about that - http://youtu.be/DEy6EuZp9IY. It's not there any more, either; Mr. Peabody's coal train hauled it all away.

  4. And the barbed wire fence is to keep who or what out, or is it in?

  9. I never knew there were cobbles in Paradise. The chimneys are very striking. Great shot, so much history.

  10. Let's see, there have been references to John Prine and Joni Mitchell. How about John Milton?

  12. These were a very common trademark housing pattern. I've always liked the chimneys.
I thought paradise was in Alberta? Saskatchewan has a Paradise Hill?

  13. I was going to say something about the chimneys, but then thought I wouldn't follow the crowd. So I'm saying nothing.

  14. That is strange that they have cleared the area. It is normal for over here but not over in the old country.

  17. I lived off Paradise Road in Heaton, Bradford, around 1980. It looked exactly like that and hasn't changed much since. Of course there are cobbles in paradise.
